Retrieve, then check
Perplexity finds and cites; Claude or ChatGPT reads the claim against the source. Auto Verification on paid plans runs the check independently.
People want a ranking: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, most accurate first. There is no honest ranking that survives a month, because each vendor ships updates, each model is stronger on some tasks and weaker on others, and "accurate" means different things for a fact, a line of code and a piece of advice. What does survive is a setup: a retrieval model for facts, two reasoning models that check each other, and a habit of reading the disagreement. This page explains that setup, task by task.
Free to start with the major families. The latest version of each is on paid plans.
| Kind | Example | What "accurate" needs | Best type of model |
|---|---|---|---|
| Factual | A price, a date, a regulation, a study | Currency and a source | A retrieval model that cites (Perplexity), checked by a reasoning model |
| Reasoning | Code correctness, a plan's logic, a trade-off | Following the problem through without dropping a step | The strongest reasoning models, at least two, with different origins |
| Judgement | Is this idea good? Is this copy convincing? | Independence from your own bias and the model's agreeableness | Two models asked to argue, plus a real person |
Public benchmarks measure narrow things: exam questions, coding puzzles, retrieval tests. A model that tops a coding benchmark can still write a webhook that double-charges, because the benchmark did not ask about retries. Use benchmarks to rule out weak models, not to pick a single winner. And note the date: a benchmark from six months ago describes models that have since been replaced under the same name.
The more useful measure is your own: the same ten questions from your actual work, sent to each model, scored by you. In a MultipleChat Project that takes an afternoon, and it tells you which model to lead with for your tasks, this quarter.
Perplexity finds and cites; Claude or ChatGPT reads the claim against the source. Auto Verification on paid plans runs the check independently.
One model writes; a different one reviews for the seven usual failures; a test runs the case nobody mentioned.
Same question, two models, fresh chats, same Project. Then "argue against this". Decide with the arguments visible.
One model drafts in your voice; another reads as the audience. You cut what sounds like a machine.
Even the best model is wrong invisibly some of the time. A second model with different training is wrong in different places. The overlap of two independent answers is more accurate than either, and the difference between them shows you where to look. No single model, however good, can give you that.
The free plan gives you the major model families and enough messages to make second opinions a habit, which is the whole point of this page. The paid plans add the latest model in each family, which disagree in more useful ways and invent less; Perplexity Sonar Pro for sourced facts; and Auto Verification, an independent verification pass that runs when factual confidence matters, without you orchestrating it.
Newer models hold your whole Project in view instead of the last few messages, reason through trade-offs instead of picking the first plausible answer, and are wrong less often and with less confidence. For the questions on this page, that is the difference between advice that sounds right and advice you can act on.

An afternoon in a Project.
On some tasks in some months. Neither is more accurate across the board, and both are wrong invisibly some of the time. Using both is more accurate than either.
It is the most checkable, because it retrieves and cites. Accuracy still depends on whether the source says what the claim says, which you or a second model confirm.
Strong on many tasks and a useful third opinion when ChatGPT and Claude disagree. Like all of them, check specifics.
Every few weeks. Vendors update models under the same names. A ranking older than a quarter is history.
By making the accurate setup cheap: five model families on the same context, Perplexity for sources, collaboration modes and Auto Verification on paid plans.
The major model families and a daily message allowance. The latest version of each, Sonar Pro and Auto Verification are on paid plans.
