Supported files, limits, and access

Files in, files out

Upload: XLSX, CSV, TSV. For older XLS files, save as XLSX first for the most reliable results.

Download: editable XLSX. CSV is available for sheets without formulas; a generated workbook’s CSV contains its first sheet; a processed workbook’s CSV contains the selected sheet. Instant tools export XLSX; refinements export XLSX, plus CSV when the selected sheet has no formulas.

Working with existing data

AI processing: up to 10 MB per upload. Choose the worksheet to change. Processing supports up to 100,000 rows per sheet, 500 columns, 30 sheets and 500,000 cells total, including headers and title rows. Oversized files are rejected rather than truncated.

Instant tools: up to 10 MB and 20,000 cells per workbook. Larger supported tables use Process File. Profiling uses the selected workflow’s input limit and summarizes up to 50,000 rows. These limits are separate from Project storage.

Questions about AI spreadsheets

Can AI create an Excel file from a description?

Yes. Choose a template or a custom workbook, describe what you need, and select an AI. Excel Studio builds a downloadable XLSX with the generated sheets, formulas, and formatting. New workbook generation lets you request up to 100 rows.

Can I use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Grok?

Yes. Excel Studio offers all four for AI generation, processing, and formula help. Choose a model for each action. Instant tools run without an AI model.

Will processing preserve my entire workbook?

Processing edits the selected worksheet and retains the other sheets in a new XLSX file. Ordinary formulas and cell formatting are retained for supported edits. Operations that could break references are rejected. Macros, pivots, slicers, external links and embedded objects are unsupported. Keep your original file and review the change summary and downloaded workbook.

Can I download the spreadsheet and edit it in Excel?

Yes. The main output is a standard XLSX workbook that you can open and edit in Excel. Formulas recalculate in your spreadsheet application; the browser preview is for reviewing the generated structure and data.

Is Excel Studio free?

Data profiling and instant tools are free after sign-in. AI-powered actions require an active Pro or Smart plan and available tokens. They are not included during the 7-day trial.
