AI sandboxes

ChatGPT and Claude sandboxes.
Built into your chat.

A sandbox is the execution environment where AI can run code and work with files. In ChatGPT and Claude, this enables tasks such as analyzing spreadsheets, performing calculations, and creating downloadable results.

MultipleChat gives you access to OpenAI’s and Claude’s native code-execution tools directly in your conversation. Describe what you need—the AI writes and runs the code.

Provider sandboxes require an eligible paid plan and use your shared AI allowance.

What you can do

Turn your files into answers.
And work you can use.

Upload a file or describe a task. Your AI can use code to calculate, transform, and create—without you writing a script.

01

Analyze your data

Calculate totals, compare categories, explore trends, and identify missing values or unusual entries.

02

Clean and combine files

Remove duplicates, standardize dates, reorganize columns, and combine datasets into a useful table.

03

Run calculations

Work through forecasts, statistical analyses, and scenario comparisons using executed code.

04

Create charts

Turn data into visual explanations. Ask for different labels, colors, or a new way to compare the results.

05

Generate downloadable files

Create spreadsheets, documents, presentations, PDFs, and structured data files from your request.

06

Keep refining your work

Continue in the same conversation: add new figures, change an assumption, or ask for an updated file.

Outputs can include XLSX · CSV · DOCX · PPTX · PDF · JSON · PNG. Available formats and results depend on the task, tools, and file limits.

One conversation

Ask. Execute. Refine.

  1. 1

    Bring your task

Upload a spreadsheet or another supported file, then tell the AI what you want to find out or create.

  2. 2

Let the AI do the work

When code is useful, the selected sandbox runs it. The AI explains the results and provides available downloads.

  3. 3

    Shape the result

Ask a follow-up such as “Group this by region” or “Update the forecast with these new numbers.”

Your execution tools

Choose how your AI works.

Use the sandbox that fits your task. You can also chat with ChatGPT while Claude’s sandbox runs the code and returns the results.

OpenAI

ChatGPT sandbox

Analyze files, run calculations, and create charts and downloads using OpenAI’s Code Interpreter.

For supported ChatGPT chats.

Anthropic

Claude sandbox

Use Claude’s code-execution environment to transform files, analyze data, and produce downloadable results.

For supported Claude or ChatGPT chats.

Built-in file tools

MultipleChat

Use MultipleChat’s tools for supported file analysis, OCR, conversion, and file creation with your selected AI.

Also available without a provider sandbox.

Prefer Automatic?

On eligible plans, ChatGPT uses its own sandbox and Claude uses its own sandbox. Grok and Gemini use MultipleChat’s tools. Free plans use MultipleChat’s tools.

You’re in control

Change your sandbox
as you work.

You can change sandbox settings during a conversation or set your preferred default in your account settings.

For this conversation

Change it in chat

  1. Open the sandbox control below an answer, labeled Change file processing.
  2. Choose an available processing option.
  3. Select Run again to try that request with the chosen sandbox.

Rerunning uses additional credits and leaves your account default unchanged. To save a preference for future conversations, use your account settings.

For future conversations

Set your account default

  1. Open Account → File preferences.
  2. Expand Default file processing and choose your preferred option.
  3. Select Save changes. Your saved default applies across your devices.
Open File preferences

A choice made for an individual chat takes priority over your account default. Available options depend on your plan and the selected chat model.

Try it with your own work.

From raw data to a summary

“Combine these sales files, remove duplicate orders, and create an Excel summary by region.”

Data cleaning · Calculations · XLSX

From assumptions to a forecast

“Compare these three pricing scenarios. Show the monthly revenue in a chart and export the calculations.”

Scenario analysis · Charts · Downloads

From a first result to a revision

“Update the spreadsheet you created with these new figures and add a chart showing the change.”

Useful to know

Before you start.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Describe the task in your own words. The AI writes and runs code when it is useful, then explains the result.

Will I get exactly the same result as in ChatGPT or Claude?

MultipleChat provides access to OpenAI’s and Claude’s native code-execution tools. Results can differ because of the selected model, instructions, available tools, and execution limits. This is access to those capabilities, not a guarantee of identical results or every feature of the providers’ apps.

Which plans include provider sandboxes?

Provider sandboxes require an eligible paid plan and available AI allowance. Sandbox work uses your shared allowance, with consumption depending on the model, task, and tools. Using ChatGPT with Claude’s sandbox contributes usage from both providers. Free and anonymous users use MultipleChat’s standard tools. View plans and access →

Can I use web search while a sandbox is selected?

Web search is unavailable while a provider sandbox is selected. Choose MultipleChat tools for web research. Provider sandboxes apply to supported single-model chats; other models and modes retain their existing tools.

What happens to my files and workspace?

Eligible original files are sent to the provider running the sandbox. When ChatGPT uses Claude’s sandbox, Anthropic receives the execution task and files, and OpenAI receives the results. File access, size, and security checks apply. Temporary execution environments may expire or reset; saved files can be reused when available, but unsaved working state may be lost.

How is this different from Studios or Image Studio?

Use a sandbox to work with files and calculations directly in chat. Studios offer guided workflows for documents, presentations, and spreadsheets. For AI-generated artwork, use Image Studio; sandbox charts are created from data and code.

Code execution helps the AI calculate and inspect results. Review important calculations and generated files before relying on them.
