Is this better than Google?

It is faster at synthesis and worse at nothing if you open the sources. Google gives you pages; this gives you a sourced draft answer and a critic. Use both.

Which model is the research assistant?

Several. Perplexity finds and cites; ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini check and interpret. Choosing the right one per step is the point of having them in one place.

Can it research my own documents?

Yes. Upload them to the Project. Ask questions with page and section references so answers are checkable.

How do I avoid invented facts?

Ask for sources, open them, have a second model check, and never repeat a number you have not seen in its source. The assistant makes each step fast; it does not remove them.

Is my research private?

Projects, files and conversations stay in your account and are never used to train any model.

What is free?
